Smile Through Sport

Satellite Club

Smile Through Sport has been working in partnership with Northumberland Sport to deliver a multi-sports session for children and young people with a visual and/or hearing impairment.  The aim of the club is to support those children to be physically active and to provide them with an opportunity to meet other young people with a similar disability.  During the sessions the young people get the opportunity to try a range of inclusive activities, tailored to their specific needs.

Feedback from the participants at the club and their parents has given an insight into the impact the club has had on the young people, not just physically, but also with their communication skills and confidence.

The club is funded through the Satellite Club programme in Northumberland.  The programme is funded nationally by Sport England and provides opportunities to take part in sport and activity through the creation of enjoyable, convenient club opportunities for young people that are designed around their needs and provides a positive experience of being active.
