Parkhead & Wansbeck Powersports Club

Parkhead & Wansbeck Powersports club offers a range of opportunities to local young people from its base in the Hirst Welfare Centre in Ashington, including weightlifting, powerlifting and strength training.

The club is open to all young people, regardless of their age, gender, ability or disability, and as well as supporting their sporting ambitions, it aims to develop self-esteem, confidence and character in its 400 members through activities and achievements at every level.

Fred Mackenzie is the club Chairman and in the video talks about the difference being physically active has made to his life and how being part of the club has helped keep him feeling young.

While Fred is proud of the competition success the clubs has had over the years, the club’s greatest achievements are centred around the positive, long lasting impact it has had on young people in a community suffering from high levels of deprivation and unemployment.
